The Term "Bouldering"

The term „bouldering“ means climbing on chunks of rock, called “boulders”, up to a height where jumping down is still an option. The focus in bouldering lays on the solution of short “boulder-problems” which more often than not, include only a few moves of sometimes very complex motion sequences. A backup by rope, as usually the case when climbing, is in this case not necessary. To absorb falls, specific mats, so called “crash-pads”, are used.

Due to the fact that climbing has gained a lot of popularity among all ages and that more and more people are discovering their passion for the sport, it is the ambition of the organisation to host a world cup in the city of Vienna. This goal has been accomplished and on May 28/29th there will be for the first time the chance to snuffle world-cup atmosphere.

The combination of a relatively low climbing-height, good protection by specific absorbtion-mats and the visual attractiveness, owed to the possibility for every athlete to try each problem as many times as necessary within the given time limit, give bouldering the perfect shape for a gripping and enjoyable competition.

A spectacular show is guaranteed!
